8 JUNE: Helsinki Super Neppis – Jack Brabham Kelli Turbulence GP
Posted 6 June 2010 by Laura@Pihlajasaari Beach, Helsinki
18:00 – 21.30 // boat ride € 5.50
In case you missed the May Day Super Neppis GP event, here’s your second chance to experience some toy car action!
The game is simple: build a track, boost your car along the track with the side of your finger, first in goal wins. It may not sound like much, but fun is guaranteed for all.
The Neppis races are named after legendary race drivers, this time it’s Australian Sir John Arthur “Jack” Brabham, AO, OBE (born 2 April 1926). Jack is a former race driver and Formula One Champion (1959, 1960 and 1966). Brabham was a Royal Australian Air Force flight mechanic and ran a small engineering workshop before he started racing midget cars in 1948.
You can buy your own Neppis racer in advance (at Stockman ex.) or borrow/buy one from the organiser (special pink edition costs € 5).
Take the boat to Pihlajasaari from behind the Carusel Café. Return-tickets are € 5.50. When you hit the Pihlajasaari beach you should be able to spot a racing flag somewhere, surrounded by a group of eager anticipating race fans!
Bring your own car, maybe some BBQ gear and beer and you should be all set for a fun night!

The tiny ‘Neppis’ race car has been around since the 1950′s. Ask any Finn and her/his eyes will glaze over with sweet nostalgic memory. Home made tracks on bed room floors, friends competing with each other, calling penalties and drinking lemonade.
