What kind of rhythm does Helsinki have as a city and do we like it like it is?

Megapolis 2025 is an urban festival organised by Dodo ry, the environmental group behind the urban gardens and many other great projects. The festival is asking questions and demanding action for sustainable and happy living. Learn how other cities do it and find your own solutions.

Among some of the things you may learn at Megapolis 2025 is, how Copenhagen managed to become one of the biggest bicycle cities in the world and possibly you’ll even go home with some ideas on how to implement the Copenhagen-vibe in your own life.

Urban rhythm is not all about cycling though, find your own ways and join the fun.

Part of the programme will be in English.

On the 22 September the World celebrates Car Free Day as well as the last day of the European Mobility Week, a campaign aimed at sensibilising  citizens to the use of public transport, cycling, walking and at encouraging European cities to promote these modes of transportation and to invest in the new necessary infrastructures.

In Helsinki the Critical Mass Bike Ride group invites you to show your local government that you want them to jump on the (bike)wagon and support the effort. As usual, attendees meet up at the end of Eteläesplanadi at the Havis Amanda fountain and are escorted through the city!

Tune your bike bell and make the message heard! Everyone is welcome and you’ll be able to buy campaign stickers for your bike at the end of the ride.

UPDATE:

12 JUNE: Pimp & Pump – Bicycle Workshop

Posted 8 June 2010 by Laura

@Kalasatama harbour, Helsinki
16:00 – 19:00 // free

Most bicycles are locked up in dusty sheds during winter, slaving their way over cobbled streets during summer and honked at by cars the rest of the year.
Still, some people know to appreciate this amazing (and some say fragile) wonder of transportation.

If you think your favorite velocipede (collective term for any kind of mono-, bi-, tri-, quatracycle) deserves to feel the love and be treated to some fun too, just grab some paint, stickers, tape, strings, bells, foil, plastic flowers etc. and join the Pimp & Pump workshop in Kalasatama.

Pimp & Pump offers therapy for traumatized bikes and invites you to party with the amazing Karaokekunkku (karaoke bike).

Feeling hungry? Check out the Dodo Urban Garden Picnic right next door.

Directions: From the Kalasatama metro bike straight forward through the harbour gate. Just keep on biking, turn left and follow the fence to the right OR just follow the fence and you´ll get there sooner or later. The workshop and the Garden are located opposite the Mustikkamaa shore.
