16:00 – 20:00 // free – bring your own snacks and drinks to share

After a year comprised of a snowy freezing winter, a super hot summer, freak rain showers and thunder storms it is easy to believe scientist when they say the climate is behaving badly. The global 10:10 campaign urges us to take action now and commit to start making changes in our own personal lives (that’s right) to cut 10 % carbon every year from now on.

The 10:10 campaign involves hundreds of thousands of people from over 128 countries and is constantly growing. To introduce the campaign concept and bring it to life in Finland, Hub Helsinki invites you to take part in a brainstorm meeting to find novel, funny, small and attractive ideas to support the campaign.

The 10:10 campaign in Finland is supported by Natural Interest, British Council, The Environment Centre of City of Helsinki, the Nordic Council of Ministers and Hub Helsinki. 10:10 is open to everybody: companies, communities, schools, individuals from young children to elderly can join the movement.

Workshop languages: English/Finnish.

More info about 10:10 at www.1010global.org.

The 10:10 campaign was founded by Franny Armstrong, director of the climate change blockbuster The Age of Stupid, which will be screened after the workshop. The Age of Stupid is a docudrama on climate change. It’s funny, it’s thought provoking and it’s shown all over the world.

11 AUGUST: Call Your Grandma Day

Posted 22 July 2010 by Laura

@ all over, flash mob meeting point tbc, Helsinki
various (all the time) // free, donations accepted

A couple of weeks ago we came across the Soita Mummolle ❤ page on facebook and instantly started wondering when we had last called our own grandma’s (it’s been far too long).

Whether you have the sturdy, super active and creative kind or the half deaf, sofa chair bound variety who tells wonderful confused stories about when she was 16 (I’ve had both), we’re sure it would make her day if you called her once in a while.

The Call you Grandma (Soita Mummolle ❤) call to action is a quirky and fun campaign to raise awareness about the issue of seniors’ loneliness.

Check out the street actions on their facebook page (next one up 4 August), read their blog, follow them on twitter, buy their t-shirts (also available in the ‘soita ukille’ variant) and join the Soita Mummolle ❤ flashmob. (Time and place coming soon on their blog and facebook).

If you’re the creative kind, you might want to brush off those crocheting skills of yours and create some crochet hearts in preparation for the Call Your Grandma Day on 11 August. The deadline for sending in crochet hearts is in the end of July, so get busy!

We think that grandmas are the wisest, kindest and most huggable creatures in the world and they deserve our full attention and love. So call yours, now! ❤
